Xinhua quoted the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting in its report on the evening of the 25th. Gharibabadi, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran, stated that under the newlyreached understanding between Iran and Oman on shipping routes across the Strait of Hormuz, inbound routes to the Persian Gulf will pass through Iranian waters, while outbound routes leaving the Persian Gulf will traverse Omani and Iranian waters. No warships will be allowed to cross the strait; only merchant vessels may pass.

Gharibabadi clarified that the understanding between Iran and Oman does not mean the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The traffic arrangement is temporary, and both countries will negotiate over a new permanent shipping route within 3060 days. He emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed if Irans demands and conditions are not satisfied.
