Haseeb Qureshi, Managing Partner of Dragonfly, stated that global cybersecurity is facing a hacking wave comparable to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the crypto industry is the first to undergo this trend. He believes that since on-chain attacks can be monetized most directly, security incidents on crypto protocols serve as an early warning of cybersecurity risks across the whole internet. While the number of hacking attacks in the crypto sector has surged sharply, the annualized total stolen funds are roughly on par with 2025, meaning the average loss per attack has decreased. Haseeb pointed out that attackers are targeting small DeFi protocols with weak security and insufficient maintenance, whereas major protocols have started adopting AI tools to bolster defenses. He expects this large-scale attack trend will also spread to the traditional internet industry.
