On September 8, under the CHIPS and Science Act, the US Department of Commerce finalized research grants of up to $100 million each for quantum computing firms Rigetti, D-Wave and Quantinuum. The funding supports technologies including quantum chips, error correction and fault-tolerant computing. Meanwhile, the Ethereum Foundation has set an internal target of December 2029 for L1 to achieve full post-quantum readiness across execution, consensus and data layers, preparing for a potential 'Q-Day' as early as 2030. There is currently no evidence that a quantum computer capable of cracking BTC or ETH private keys will exist by 2029. Current efforts are mainly to prepare in advance for cryptography migration, which may take several years to complete.
