A recent report by TRM Labs shows that AI adoption in cryptocurrency‑linked crimes has increased by 40% over the past year. Its AI Crime Adoption Index now stands at 54, in the “Emerging” phase, up from roughly 28 in 2024. Fraud is the only crime category that has reached the “Mature” stage. Since 2022, the share of reported crypto‑fraud cases involving deepfakes, AI chatbots and similar technologies has risen around 13‑fold. So far in 2026, reported losses caused by deepfake‑enabled fraud are 263% higher than the total losses recorded across 2025. The report also warns that North‑Korean‑linked hackers are using deepfake techniques to infiltrate IT‑sector workers, deploying AI for social‑engineering attacks and vulnerability‑hunting.
