On March 3, Iran’s Fars News Agency reported that Mohammad Akbarzadeh, Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, stated that the Strait of Hormuz is now fully under the control of Iran’s naval forces, and over a dozen oil tankers have been struck by shells in the strait. Akbarzadeh said the IRGC Navy had repeatedly warned that the Strait of Hormuz is in a state of war, and any vessel could be targeted by shells or drones. Despite the warnings, more than ten oil tankers ignored the alerts and were hit and set ablaze by artillery. He emphasized that following Iran’s announcement banning navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, oil tankers, merchant ships, and fishing vessels are no longer able to pass through the waterway.
