The Central Bank of Argentina is considering lifting the ban on banks' cryptocurrency-related businesses, permitting banks to conduct cryptocurrency trading and custody services under a new regulatory framework. This marks a shift in the official stance from 'prohibition' to 'regulated inclusion'. The move aims to bring the widespread private use of Bitcoin (BTC) and stablecoins for value storage and trading into the compliant system, strengthen KYC/AML (Know Your Customer/Anti-Money Laundering) measures, and enhance the traceability of tax revenues. If implemented, banks are expected to compete directly with local cryptocurrency trading platforms, driving down service fees and triggering an industry reshuffle. However, regulators still need to formulate capital and liquidity risk standards to ensure the stability of the financial system.
