Emmanuel Tutuba, Governor of the Bank of Tanzania, stated that the central bank is finalizing the legal and regulatory framework for virtual assets, cryptocurrencies and stablecoins to strengthen industry supervision and protect investors. Tutuba noted rising participation among young local investors, and the central bank has received numerous complaints over losses from crypto trading. The new rules will focus on mitigating risks of money laundering, terrorist financing and threats to financial stability.
