CME Group officially rolled out seven-day 24-hour trading for cryptocurrency futures and options on May 29. More than 7,200 relevant contracts were traded over its first trading weekend with a notional value of around $50 million. A CME product executive said the move is designed to “bridge the gap between regulated traditional trading venues and the around-the-clock nature of crypto assets.”

By extending the regulatory framework of conventional derivatives into the round-the-clock crypto trading ecosystem, CME’s official launch on May 29 marks a major milestone in expanding the coverage of regulated crypto derivatives.
