Donald Trump stated that he has reservations about nominating Kevin Hassett to serve as the Chair of the Federal Reserve. The reason is that Hassett currently holds the position of Director of the White House National Economic Council, a key figure in the government’s communication of economic policies to the outside world; a transfer to the Fed would weaken this role. Although Hassett was once regarded as the leading candidate to succeed the incumbent Chair Jerome Powell, the nomination faces resistance in the Senate. Trump is still evaluating other candidates recently and stated that a decision will be made in the coming weeks.
